a rainbow game

some of my kids are getting older 

so I have been trying to incorporate some projects

that are challenging for them

but yet my smaller kiddos can still do...

this has been challenging for me

but yet i know i need to do this for the kids

what you need:

a picture of a rainbow

a rainbow dice

(i made this one)

a regular dice

glue

small pieces of paper--colors of the rainbow

a paper plate for the younger kids

--each side of the "dice" was a color of the rainbow!--

for our game the kids would roll the rainbow dice

and then the numbered dice

if the rainbow dice landed on orange

and the numbered dice landed on 5

they would have to glue on 5 orange pieces

while the older kids are busy with this game

the younger kiddos

are gluing rainbow pieces of paper to a paper plate!

simple, easy, but yet they are busy!

babies + sticky paper plate = lots of laughs for me!

(and maybe a little frustration for them)

and those kids that are to old to have a paper plate 

but not old enough to count or know all their colors

well they just got a rain bow

sat with the older kids and did what they wanted

i always find that they try their best to follow the older kids

They also sit and listen to them talking about colors and numbers

everyone is learning

Does anyone out there have multiple age groups?

What do you need to meet the needs of everyone involved?

Play with Your Food

I LOVE table manners

(i don't have them myself)

but I do try to teach the children about table manners

so playing with food isn't always an option!

But today I encouraged playing with food

and then eating it :)

What you need:

and fruit loops

-i forgot those in the photo-

what this is are little dixie cups with a scewer stuck in them and a quarter piece of paper the colors of the rainbow/fruitloops

I then placed the cups on the table and the fruitloops in the center

and had the kids match the fruitloops with the card under the cup.

--this was very easy for my group so I added numbers to the cards and had the kids match the correct number of fruitloops with the card number and color--

 hmmm i think this is a good match!

I even had the little guys do this project, i did not have them do the color matching but just focus on the fine motor skills of getting the fruitloop onto the stick!

HUGE HIT!

not very often can I get the little boys to sit still for more then 48 secs

so the fact that they did this for 30mins is WONDERFUL!!!

It helped that they could snack and learn at the same time!!

colors and shells!

Not a very exciting title but its a quick way of summing up what we did!

I was blessed enough to take a week vacation to the beach!  Each morning while I was there I would walk the beach and collect seashells! I knew the kids would just love that I brought these shells home for them to explore! 

After everyone had gotten a turn to explore all the different shells we talked about Big, medium, and small. I took out 3 cups and wrote Big, Medium, and Small on each cup and had the kids sort the different sized shells.  The older kids had no problem with this activity, but the younger kids struggled with the "medium" cup.

 the 3 cups, I wrote the words in the size they are so that way the children could "read" them with little to no help!  I loved how quickly all the kids picked up on this activity!

This little lady could have sat here all day doing this!  She LOVED sorting!

We also did a very simple but yet fun activity I call crayon bundles!

I just grouped crayons and wrapped them in a rubber band! It adds a whole new twist to coloring!  The kids really enjoyed this project but I found out the majority of my kids prefer to just color with 1 crayon at a time!  I think they felt like they had more control and could add more details!

 I love the way they are working so hard!
