the dirty kid and some sidewalk chalk paint

That was a LONG title
(i apologize now this is a long post with a lot of pics!)
First off sidewalk chalk paint
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
add this to your
"things i need to do this summer" list
your kids will thank you!
"my" kids said
"this is the best day ever!"
(didn't think i would hear that pharse considering the morning we had!)
equal parts corn starch and water
add food coloring
(i used LOTS!)
NEEDS to be stirred well!!!
I made a big batch and then poured into muffin trays and then added the food coloring!
You will need paint brushes as well!
Then set outside and let the kids paint the sidewalk!
This was a SERIOUS hit!!
we also dipped our chalk into bowls of water
and wrote with it
gives a bright color
and draws smoother!
dip dip dip dip, oh forgot I was suppose to be painting
dip dip dip dip
what are we doing again...
we had multiple bowls of all different colors scattered over the driveway!
the kids were sooo busy painting, splattering!
(i did remind parents to send "junk clothes" so i didn't ruin anything nice!)
some of our creations
the color wasn't as bright as I had hoped
but there is another chalk paint recipe I hope to try out later this summer
when one child makes a square...they ALL make squares!
i love how they squat into their positions!
doesn't matter if it spills because its sooo easy to just make more!!
we had lots of spills because of a certain toddler!
busy busy busy!
last night my husband commented that
I am giving my readers a bad impression of our son/or my parenting
he is "the dirty kid"
You know what I am talking about
that kid that goes into a white room that is spotless
but manages to come out covered in dirt and mud.
that is my son!
he is "the dirty kid"
he will hopefully be very proud of that title someday!
but for now
I apologize to his future teachers
this picture gives no justice to how dirty this kid was!
he was the toddler spilling EVERYTHING
then sitting in it
but...
he was the happiest toddler EVER
and that is saying a lot considering we call him
grumpa lumpa
My husband will frown at this post and how dirty his son is
but my thought is
HE IS HAPPY
LET HAPPY BE!!
he is not hurting anyone or anything
(other than maybe a pair of pants and a couple shirts)

so go out get some cornstrach, paint brushes (i used wider brushes so kids could see results quicker)
and some food coloring and let your kids paint the sidewalk!

anyone else out there have "the dirty kid"?

More pics from the great outdoors!

I think I had a record today of taking 21 mins to dress and get 8 kids and myself out the door!
not to bad!  considering it was 36 mins yesterday with  10 kids!

Anyways...
here are some pics of the kiddos hanging around outdoors!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Last night, it snowed about 2 inches
The kids were sooooo excited!

Which meant I had to do what I had been dreading

GEAR THEM UP!!!!
GO POTTY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!!

snowpants
coats
boots
hats
gloves/mittens
(and in the order)
--in my head I am getting angry at the boots, and even angrier and the gloves and mittens, and trying to get that tiny little thumb in that hole...ugh!!--

shove them out the door!

Put your tennis shoes on
(must make Target run to buy myself snow boots)

Then freeze fingers by trying to take photos of the kids outside!
bats are a necessary toy when playing outside in snow!

pretty sure he was telling me he had boogers that needed to be wiped(or thawed)

little people in snowpants bring me pure joy!!

don't mind my pink gloves...

snow much fun out here!!

the kids play in this corner of the yard and pretend its an island
(is it warmer on that island?)

hey dude, you in there??

so what if i got pink boots, purple hat and purple gloves!  I don't know my colors yet!

Then start hauling everyone back in, undressing, wipe noses, serve hot choc
mop up floors from all the snow that got tracked in, look at clock 67mins went by...
ALLLLLL that for 67 mins!  WOW!!
Good times!
can't wait to do it again tomorrow
(insert a little bit of sarcasm!)

A Story + Art = A Great Start!

Today I am linking up with one of my favorite Link ups A Story + Art = A Great Start
-make sure to stop over there and check it out-

One of our Favorite Authors is Jan Brett.
She has such lovely stories and great Illustrations.

Today we read THE HAT
its a favorite!

My reasoning for this book was so that we could discuss winter clothes!
(if you havent read a jan Brett book please do NOW!)
In this story winter is coming and Lisa gets out the winter clothes to hang on the line to air out, along comes Hedgie and...
thats all I am going to share with you!  Please read the book to your children to find out the rest :)

Well today we decided that we needed to hang our "clothes" on the line as well!

What you need:
A closeline
-i tied a string from one door to another-
Closepins
Clothes
-we used paper clothes, that i made that look horrible-

Here are the kids working on hanging clothes on the line:

After our clothes were hung and aired out we took them down to talk about what we need to wear duing the winter months.  Its cold out here so theres a LOT we have to wear!
We then glued our clothing to our paper.

What you need:
Paper clothes that are outdoor snow related
Glue

sidenote - I free handed the clothes they were done horribly but the kids don't care so its ALL good...right

Here are a couple of pictures of the kids working hard!

Here is the finished products!

- i love this one because he put it together as though he was dressing someone! -
We have been working on dressing ourselves to go outside!  Its a LOT of work but hopefully in a couple weeks we will have our routine down!!
Here are some pics of the kids outside in their warm clothes:

- don't worry I remind them only eat the white snow not the yellow snow!! -

Day 6 on the advent Calendar was watch a Christmas Movie, my daycare kiddos aren't into watching TV so it lasted about 15mins :)
