Musical Painting

First I have to say:

What you are about to read is a MUST!!!

If you have never tried this or done it

PLEASE PLEASE DO!!

What you need:

A vareity of painting/writing stations

Music (we used "chillout music")

Set up your stations

I had 4 stations

-easel

-dot paint

-writing activity UNER the table

(taped paper to the underneath of the table)

-finger painting

Play some music, when the music stops the kids switch stations!

I tried to monitor to make sure they were done or very close to done before I stopped the music!

there was something so amazing during this project I can't even explain it very well!

Kids were painting by the way the music was playing!

I had beautiful pictures from calm queit music!

I had WILD pictures from a more African upbeat song

I had Messy pictures from music that was all over the place!

EVERY PICTURE WAS PERFECT!

IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!

I will be doing this more often and HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend doing (did i mention you NEED to do this) this with a large group, small group, or just play different types of music with your child at home when doing some painting or drawing!

Felt Friday

It is FINALLY back!

I didn't mean to slack on my Felt Friday projects,

but sometimes, life just takes over and felt gets put on the back burner

SHAME ON ME!!

For disappering on Felt Friday for a VERY LONG TIME

I will be giving you 2, yes TWO felt projects!!

The first one is SUPER CUTE,

I got it from this lovely website, The Iowa Farmer's Wife

-be sure to stop over and check it out!-

Rudolph the _______ nose Reindeer

What you Need:

Felt: dark brown, lite brown, red, and any other color you want

and a cute little child to help make the reindeer

and of course a scissors to cut everything out!

You will need to cut out 2 handprints from the dark brown

and a roundish triangle from the light brown

then with all the other colors cut out a circle from each color...don't forget the RED!

-I used a milk lid to trace the circles, it was the perfect size!

-don't forget to add eyes-

There are lots of different ideas you could come up with for this felt project!

You could just place a different colored circle and ask the kids "rudolph the orange nose reindeer?" and keep doing that until you get to red, a great color game!

for the older kids you could write the colored word on a piece of paper and have the child pick a piece of paper and find the color circle that matches the word!

-I would print the words in the color of the word, for example pink would be printed pink

-or you can just set it out on a table and let children come up with their own way of playing with it!

and here is another one that I quickly put together tonight

 -a christmas tree with decorations,

kids LOVE decorating Christmas Trees and so this is a fun little activity for them to decorate a child size tree

--I also thought about making a colored dice for this tree, the kids would roll the dice and then put that color circle on the tree! --

Yup defintly going to be doing that!!

Here is a little Halloween Felt Story!

5 little Pumpkins

Five little Pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said "My, it's getting late."
The second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don’t care."
The forth one said, "We’ll run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "It's just Halloween fun."
"Whooooo" went the wind.
And out went the light.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of site.

you could add more pieces like a witch, or a moon, but this is what i got!

I also made these felt pumpkins so that the kids could create the faces that they want!

So far its been a hit!

FELT FRIDAY

I promised all 5 of you readers that I would post a Felt story and not just one but two!  And even though I am really tired and would rather just close the computer and crawl into bed, I WILL post 2 different felt stories!  I hope you enjoy and I hope you make a felt story and share it with me! 

The first one is a favorite of the kids!  Its one of their favorite books and a favorite felt story!
BROWN BEAR BROWN BEAR by Eric Carle  -- if you don't know this story hit up a library or book store and check it out!  FOR REAL!!

I just printed on the correct colored paper cut, contact paper, glue on a piece of felt to the back and BAM!  you have instant fun and education!!

The second one was a lovely pinterest find!  If you haven't joined pinterest yet you are SERIOUSLY missing out!!  Soooo get to it and join pinterest like the rest of us!

here are the words to the felt story
5 little jellybeans, I wish I had more!/I’ll eat the green one, now there are 4.
4 little jellybeans, tasty as can be/I’ll eat the purple one, now there are 3.
3 little jellybeans, only a few/I’ll eat the blue one, now there are 2.
2 little jellybeans, eating them is fun/I’ll eat the pink one, now there is one.
1 little jellybean, the last one for me/I’ll eat this yellow one, I’m happy as can be.
Mmmmm, not the healthiest dinner but a tasty one!

This one is SUPER EASY to make!  It doesn't get much easier than cutting out an oval shaped piece of felt ot look like a jelly bean!

Felt Board Friday

Another Friday and Another Felt Board Story!

A couple weeks ago I mentioned we loved The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and have read the story and acted out scenes outside on the slides and even inside as I chased children all over the place!  So I decided I needed to make the story out of Felt! 

Here is my beautiful creation!

Now I was sooo proud of this especially since I am not very crafty, but then my daughter and I had this conversation

Natalie: "What's that?"  --pointing to the troll
Me: "Thats the Big scary Troll!"
Natalie: "he's green, thats weird.  Why does he have red hair?"
Me: my feelings now hurt - "well mommy thought green and red would make him look mean and scary."
Natalie: "He isn't very Big is he?"
Me: "Well he is kinda big...?"
Natalie: "I guess I will just pretend he is big and scary because he isn't!"
Me: "ok." :(

  ---I MUST create a new bigger and better and SCARIER troll--

Any ideas for me on how to accomplish this??

Felt Friday!

Still got a couple hours before Friday is over, so here is my felt story for Felt Friday!

I found this cute little rhyme on pinterest.  If you haven't checked out pinterest...YOU MUST!

Back to my little rhyme that i found, its called,  Little Mouse, Little Mouse. It goes a little like this:

Little Mouse, Little Mouse are you in the Red House, ect... You do this with all the colors of the house until you find the missing mouse which is hidden under one of the houses.  The kids will have fun with the rhyme and you will keep them on their toes until the missing mouse is found!
I am pretty impressed with my art skills on this one so I hope you enjoy it!  I choose to stick with the basic colors, but you can have as many or as little as you would like! 

I haven't actually done this one with the kiddos yet but I know they are going to love it!!

Felt Board Friday

"I will huff and puff and BLOW your house down!"  I could do this story over and over and the kids will get the giggles each time I do!  When I did it the first time I realized no one knew the story or I was telling it a tad differently than they had heard it.  But sometimes I think we get caught up in all the new book and stories that we forgot how much fun the old ones are. 

I got my pictures from HERE!  Like the 5 Little Monkeys I just printed a copy, colored, cut, and used contact paper to protect them added a piece of felt to the back and there you have a story that brings love, laughter, and learning!

Notice that there is a girl pig, when you tell the story you must make the girl pig the third little pig that builds the strong house that does not get blown over! :)  Also the pot of water when the big bad wolf climbs down the chimney (if thats how you tell the story as there are multiple ways of telling it) you MUST make a super loud OWWWWWWWWW and throw the big bad wolf, by doing this the kids will ROAR with laughter!!  Its their favorite part!!

Lets Talk About Felt

I LOVE felt board stories and so do the kiddos!  I am not gonna lie, I kinda forgot about felt for awhile and then thanks to pinterest I have been super busy making LOTS of felt board stories!  I will be sharing a couple with you today.  I think I might have to start something like Felt Board Friday...hmmmmm...

Frist off my felt board is the back of a white board.  Very easy to make I just got some felt and used push pins to hold it to the back of the white board.  This way I can use the baord for multiple things! 

This first one is 5 Red Apples.

The second one is 5 little Monkeys.

 This one I printed pictures of a monkey and an alligator, but then I use the same tree that I made for 5 Red Apples.  I colored and then used contact paper so they will last longer and glued some felt to the back!  I let the kidlets take turns being the alligator and snapping the monkeys off the tree!

Finally I am going to share this one.  Its not a story or a song, and remember I am NOT an artist, the kids don't care how bad it is so I hope you don't care as well!

I made felt people and clothes (kinda like a paper doll) Let me tell ya I pull this bad boy out and I have kids quiet as ever dressing and undressing these dolls forever!  Girls and BOYS love this activity!!
