a rainbow game

some of my kids are getting older
so I have been trying to incorporate some projects
that are challenging for them
but yet my smaller kiddos can still do...
this has been challenging for me
but yet i know i need to do this for the kids

what you need:
a picture of a rainbow
a rainbow dice
(i made this one)
a regular dice
glue
small pieces of paper--colors of the rainbow
a paper plate for the younger kids
--each side of the "dice" was a color of the rainbow!--

for our game the kids would roll the rainbow dice
and then the numbered dice
if the rainbow dice landed on orange
and the numbered dice landed on 5
they would have to glue on 5 orange pieces
while the older kids are busy with this game
the younger kiddos
are gluing rainbow pieces of paper to a paper plate!
simple, easy, but yet they are busy!
babies + sticky paper plate = lots of laughs for me!
(and maybe a little frustration for them)
and those kids that are to old to have a paper plate
but not old enough to count or know all their colors
well they just got a rain bow
sat with the older kids and did what they wanted
i always find that they try their best to follow the older kids
They also sit and listen to them talking about colors and numbers
everyone is learning

Does anyone out there have multiple age groups?
What do you need to meet the needs of everyone involved?
I would love to hear your ideas!
Also on the side of my blog you can vote for what you would like to see more of at
babies, ToDdLeRs, and PRESCHOOLERS, oh my!!!

its raining...

i know you were all thinking men
common this is a daycare blog :)

But we did a little project on rain and water!

First we talked about clouds
if we could touch a could what would it feel like:
pillows, soft, fluffy, cotton candy
if we could taste it, what would it taste like:
gross, feathers, cotton candy, sticky

We then made a cloud with cotton balls
glue + cotton = fun!
hmmm where should this piece go...
look at that face of pure concentration!

even "babies" can join the fun!

We then made rain drops!
i took a couple toilet paper tubes and folded one side to make it look like a raindrop
busy busy boys!

Here are some of our finished products!

and then we did some water play!
we talked about how after a rain storm we can always find lots of frogs and snakes and other pond animals.  and so we had a few "ponds" and animals inside!
there may have been some alligators and sharks that made their way to our pond as well!
oh I also had to put a stop to water play to lay down some towels (should have done that first!)
they were getting a little crazy and the water on the floors was making me a little crazy!
poured some water in the babies trays and WOW!
that was a HUGE FUN MESS!!!
look at that face of pure happiness!!!
These crazy boys played in their water tray with spoons and medicine cups
for over 30mins!
They then screamed at me as i took their trays away!
but don't worry the screaming stopped once they got outside...
only to begin again when they had to come back inside!
CRAZY BOYS!!!

somewhere over the...

rainbow
sometimes I get caught up in the
"i can only do rainbows in march so I better get a move on"
and that annoys me that I get that way!
i need to remember to do things that kids are into not because
"its that time of year"
ok
with that being said
it is March 9th and we havent done a rainbow activity yet ;)
--dont you love how my mind works!--
we will be doing lots of them now because
what kid doesn't love a rainbow!
We read about Noah and the ark
the animals
and God's promise to us!
the rainbow!
I got this little work sheet from HERE

we then added some fruit loops
BEFORE running to the store to buy a box of fruit loops
WATCH WHICH ONES YOU GET!!
i was very disappointed when I realized I had the
SUPER LOOPS
which meant all the reds were shaped like a figure 8...
total bummer!
but don't worry I think I was the only one annoyed with that!
anyways back to the rainbow...

Lesson was learned today...
when doing an activity that involves glue make sure your glue bottles aren't all empty!
because then you waste time filling them into each other
and then you get upset because the kids are frustrated that their glue "isn't working!"
so always keep LOTS of glue on hand for your projects!!
my lesson was learned!
I loved the way the children worked differently!
Some children worked top to bottom red to purple
while other children put whatever color they wanted anywhere!
I always think little things like that show their personality!
I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE KIDDOS!!!

you can see by these two photos how differently the kids work!
this picture makes me smile!
He LOVES LOVES LOVES to read books!!

Also have you amazed your kiddos with your scientific skills by doing
THIS
i honestly have no idea why a broom and some eggs will stand all by themself on a specific couple of days something about allignment and an axis, (science isn't my thing) but its pretty cool and the kids will think you are more awesome than you already are!!

happy broom standing!

ROOOAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!

in like a lion and out like a lamb
i don't think this saying applies to
south dakota
but we still made a lion today!

I got some of the idea from HERE! one of my most favorite teaching blogs!

even though my idea started from the blog above
we had to turn it into our own
but doing a few things different!

Here is what you will need:
Brown Triangle
red, orange, yellow, brown paint
tooth brushes
spiral noodles
glue

we first glued the triangle to a white piece of paper

then we "brused" the lions hair on!
The tooth brush was a new tool for must of the kiddos
but they picked up on the brushing pretty quickly!!!

more brushing!

an annoyed child
-the story of his life lately!-
we also glued on the noodles and some eyes and made a mouth with the left over brown paint!
and then here you have our lions!!!

i love the way they turned out!
these kids are soooo talented!

I was reminded to do my lion craft from this new blogger!

the big bad wolf...

which was kinda a total fail
but the kiddos still had fun
making thier big bad wolf.

I just cut out a bunch of triangles
of all different sizes
and came up with our big bad wolf

they turned out fun, goofy, and each one is sooo different!
they don't look much like a big bad wolf but we know what they are
and thats all that matters!

We also got to go back down to the basement!
YAY!!

The kids were tad overly excited...
but hopefully after a couple days the excitment settles down!

love is in the air!

I don't know about anyone else
but over here we got
boogers, coughs, boogers,
oh and did I mention the
BOOGERS!!!
for real!  Ugh I am all nose wipped out!!

Anyways!
Love is in the air over here!
I was busy using my cricut to cut a punch of hearts for the kids to just glue to a piece of paper.
When another daycare friend says
"make a love tree!"
So we did!

What you need is:
a bunch of hearts
(i used 5 different colors and a bunch of different sizes)
their hand/arm cut out of brown paper
a piece of paper to glue everything to and glue

The kiddos got busy right away decorating their "love tree"

of course there were all sorts of giggles when I would say "love"!
AND then the laughter wouldnt stop when I sang about LOVE!

These kids crack me up!!

I leave you with this little man who is GUILTY with playing in my tubberware cupboard!
I will be VERY happy when we are back down to my daycare space!!
but until then I will tryto enjoy these little moments!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Sparkle and Shine!

Since my basement is FAR from being sparkling and shining

This was at 630 am on Thursday January 26th
This was at 12pm today January 27th

Slowly but surly the progress is being made!
We are trying to stay positive!!

Anyways like I said before
Since my basement is far from being sparkly and shinny
we had to do a craft to brighten up my mood
(the kids are THRILLED to be having daycare on my main level!)

So I stole asked my husband for some of his cds that he wasn't using
and we decorated them with gems, and sequence!

look at those big ol brown eyes!  How do you not love her!!
even through the sass, I love her!

working hard!!

Here are a few of the finished products!
the plan will be to string them up somewhere!
we just haven't decided where yet!
Simple, easy, fun and sparkly!!
and who does love a little sparkle in their life!

Happy Weekend to everyone!

I will hopefully be taking daily pics so that I can remember all work we went through and hopefully in the very near future my daycare will look AMAZING!!!

Build a Snowman

It is FREEZING outside today!
There will be no going out to build a real snowman
so we are staying inside and making our own little snowmen!

First we read the Story
Sneezy the Snowman
Very cute book about a snowman that has a cold and his friends give him their clothes to keep him warm
but Sneezy just can't seem to regulate his temperature...
you will have to read the story to find out more

After we read the Story we made our own snowman!

What I did:
(there are many many ways to make a snowman!)
I cut out 3 circles, small, medium, and large
the children didn't need to use one of each but I wanted to provide them with options

gathered some pom poms for decorating

I also cut hats, scarfs, orange triangles, and sticks from felt

set the items on the table
and let the kids go to work!!

I love how creative they can be!!

Here are a couple of our Final Products!

What Kind of Snowmen are you making??
