messy fun

i knew it was going to be a hot one today
so we headed out right after breakfast
around 8:30am

it was BEAUTIFUL!!
i really didn't want to take them back in for project time
so...
i brought out the paint
a bucket of soapy water
paint brushes, tooth brushes
and an old towel i cut up

and the kids were BUSY!
painting the house
(i added dish soap to the paint so i knew the paint would come off easily)
painted the big window
(it needs to be cleaned!!!!!)
the kids think this is the coolest thing that i let them paint the big window!
playing in a soapy bucket of water
oh, hello little friend!
today was not only childcare but puppycare
we had a little visitor for a couple days and we will be so sad to see her go!
she was an excellent dog!!
these two boys were soaked!!  and loving every single minute of it!
i think as long as they have a car or a bucket of water they are content!
soapy bucket of water is a treat!
work in progress before the kids decided it was time to wash it all off!
more painting and brushing going on!
i would have never guessed that
dish rags in soapy water+ toddlers = happy busy boys!
wringing out the rags was about the only thing this little man did for a good 30 minutes!
washing the house!

so friends get out some soapy paint, some soapy water and let the kids have fun making a mess and then cleaning that mess back up again!  i have a feeling this will become a weekly project at this daycare!

its raining...

i know you were all thinking men
common this is a daycare blog :)

But we did a little project on rain and water!

First we talked about clouds
if we could touch a could what would it feel like:
pillows, soft, fluffy, cotton candy
if we could taste it, what would it taste like:
gross, feathers, cotton candy, sticky

We then made a cloud with cotton balls
glue + cotton = fun!
hmmm where should this piece go...
look at that face of pure concentration!

even "babies" can join the fun!

We then made rain drops!
i took a couple toilet paper tubes and folded one side to make it look like a raindrop
busy busy boys!

Here are some of our finished products!

and then we did some water play!
we talked about how after a rain storm we can always find lots of frogs and snakes and other pond animals.  and so we had a few "ponds" and animals inside!
there may have been some alligators and sharks that made their way to our pond as well!
oh I also had to put a stop to water play to lay down some towels (should have done that first!)
they were getting a little crazy and the water on the floors was making me a little crazy!
poured some water in the babies trays and WOW!
that was a HUGE FUN MESS!!!
look at that face of pure happiness!!!
These crazy boys played in their water tray with spoons and medicine cups
for over 30mins!
They then screamed at me as i took their trays away!
but don't worry the screaming stopped once they got outside...
only to begin again when they had to come back inside!
CRAZY BOYS!!!

Ice Treasures

"WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR?"
this is what I heard as I set that blocks of ice out with toys frozen inside!
My reply was
"So you can have fun trying to get them out!"
50 minutes later the toys were unthawed, water EVERYWHERE, and smiling happy kids proud of their hard work!

Here are some pics of the kids working hard to free their icey treasures!

hammering with different utensils

Pouring warm water to see what happens!

thinking oh he looks soooo cute and he is sooo busy!

then i turn my back and he dumps the bowl of water on himself :)
Happy Friday Friends
Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!!

Snow Much Fun!

Today was a quiet day since we have a few kids out with strep!
SAD!!
These nasty cold/flu bugs are getting around A LOT!!!

NO FUN!!
(but I must say we have been fairly healthy and not to many kids have missed daycare so far this winter)

Now onto things like snow!

We hadn't painted with cookie cutters in awhile so I got the snowflake and snowman cookie cutters out and some paint and let the kids get busy!!

After we got done painting with snowman and snowflake cookie cutters I had a surprise waiting upstairs for the kids!

BUCKETS FULL OF SNOW!!!

The kiddos had the choice of wearing gloves or bare hands! They all went back and forth!

I had bought some spray bottles at the dollar store so the kids could spray the snow, BUT they didn't work!  DISAPPOINTMENT!  so i pulled out a bunch of syringes and we used those instead!!
they discovered quickly that the snow would melt when it got squirted with water!  AMAZING!!!
AAAHHHHHH he was NOT a fan!!!!!
and this young man was OBSESSED with making yellow snow! :)
which reminded everyone through giggles why we don't eat the yellow snow!

Happy Monday!!!

I went to an amazing training this weekend which a majority of it was about movement and music so I hoping (if brave enough) to share a video clip or 2 of some new games/songs I learned!!

on this blog I mainly only share the "projects/crafts" so hopefully I can start sharing a little more!!

Pete the Cat!

not a fan of cats
but I am a fan of
Pete the Cat books!
A must read!
I am also super excited to go to a training next weekend and hear
the author of Pete the Cat speak!!!
Today we read
Pete the Cat
I love my white shoes
GREAT BOOK!!!

We then made our own colorful foot prints!
While singing I love my  ____ shoes!

We had 3 stations
-the paint station
the paint hasn't been set out yet (no one is to be trusted)

-the walking station

-the foot washing station

The kiddos LOVED this activity!

standing in a warm bucket of bubbles is also super fun!!

it was a little tricky to walk with slippery feet, but thankfully no one fell!

it was a little extra work but the giggles, the singing, was well worth it!
and I love when on their own they say things like
"hey we are like Pete!
or "look at my red shoes!"
and, "can we do it again!"
also, "pete had colorful shoes and we are also pretending to have colorful shoes!"

-parents, your kids feet may need a bath tonight!-

Mess Free

After yesterdays MESS
I needed something a little less messy!

So we went with mess free art!

All you need:
ziploc bags
paint
tape

I just squirted primary colors into the bags
(i also did red and white, and green and white)

and taped them to the tables

I loved that the kids right away slammed their hands into the paint
only to be disappointed that NOTHING was on their hands!
It was funny to see and hear them say
"where did the paint go?"
or
"nothing is on my hand!"

it was a little confusing but, they still had fun smearing the paint around
and the older kids had fun going from bag to bag to see what colors were being made

We also practiced a few letters and writing our names!

This activity is super easy!
pretty cheap
and if the kids are having fun and doing some learning
its a keeper!!
